Anonymous: I found your article while doing a google search for social volunteerism and flash mob-style volunteering. Love it! Exactly what I am hoping to get going on. Have any ideas for a variation of "flash mob" as a name for the concept, i.e. Cash Mob? As I have introduced the idea to a few people they don't seem to readily "get it" and a catchy name might help. Also, any suggestions as to the platform? I'm considering simply starting out as a facebook group w/accompanying blog? Thanks in advance, Nat
Hi and thanks for your question, Nat. If you are really interested in “stealing this idea,” I’d love to help consult. I think you could fashion a solid MVP with wordpress, eventbrite, and facebook. Do you have any technical skills?
As for names, I can think of a few off the top of my head: SocialSpark, SocialMob, CivicSquad, or MakerMob. I’m sure you can come up with something better though. Please keep in touch as you continue to work. I’d love to help however I can.
