There is much ado about the possibilities of google glass. Live steaming one’s life will take lifecasting to a whole new level. Augmented reality, will also take google advertising to a new frontier. Billboards that once served a single advertisement at a time will soon be green screens with google glass superimposing ads specific to each of us.
But the future of augmented reality advertising is more than simply seeing the advertisement. Instead, we will have a whole new way to interact with advertisements. Glass engineers have already created some very cool and intuitive gestures (like the wink). It’s only a matter of time before we have the ability to simply point a finger at a google glass-enabled billboard to immediately purchase the item on sale. Rather than ‘click-through rates’ we’ll soon be measuring the very literal 'point of sale’.
Of course, it’s ridiculous that Amazon was able to patent the 1-click purchase - a patent worth over $1-billion. Since it’s been upheld as a lawful patent as a legitimately innovative technology, why can’t someone patent this new way to use Google Glass with the mere point of a finger?
If anyone knows anything about patent law, I’d suggest stealing this idea… just don’t forget to footnote this blog.
